Recently, a homeowner wanted to transform an idle, sun-baked backyard into a comfortable outdoor living and entertaining space. After a previous DIY patio cover failed under the weather, the client partnered with Way To Go Builders Inc. to have a single, accountable team handle a custom-built patio project from start to finish without juggling separate contractors.
The vision focused on solving a few key challenges right away. The yard received heavy, unshaded sun exposure all day, lacked proper drainage away from the house foundation, and had no electrical wiring for evening use. Additionally, the homeowner needed durable materials that could withstand direct sun and seasonal rain without fading or cracking.
To implement this dream patio design, Way To Go Builders Inc. handled all aspects – from the design phase to construction and documentation to ensure there was no unnecessary stress during the process. The construction plan consisted of a shade-oriented fiberglass roof that blocks sunlight at noon and will direct rainwater in the right direction. There was also an additional partial enclosure on the side of the patio.
To make the space usable after dark, the team ran a low-voltage electrical circuit through the roofline, hanging pendant fixtures over the dining area and adding integrated ambient lighting. Crews cleared and graded the footprint to manage stormwater drainage properly, then poured a stamped, sealed concrete decking surface designed to prevent future cracking.
The final result is a shaded, fully lit outdoor room designed for everyday use, combining a quiet spot for morning coffee with a durable space to host family and friends.
